Are you in love with them, or with who they promised to become?

Hope is meant to point forward. In the wrong relationship it points backward — anchoring you to a golden early chapter and a version of the person that only appears often enough to keep you waiting. The Hope Trap names that mechanism.

The Model

01

The Glimpse

Occasional flashes of the person you fell for — just enough evidence to justify staying.

02

The Extrapolation

You build an entire future on the glimpse, treating the exception as the coming rule.

03

The Wait

Your life quietly reorganises itself around a return that is always almost here.

Hope is beautiful — until it becomes the reason you accept less than you deserve.

Notebook Entry

The glimpse

Occasional flashes of the person you fell for — just enough evidence to justify staying another year.

Workbook Exercise

The future you are waiting for

A page to separate who someone is from who they promised, one honest line at a time.
